Hello Kenneth,
In a competitive league, it is common for teams to replace their engines every race. However, this approach does mean spending tokens on new engines.
Hello,
In a 1 car league, you are given enough engines to be able to replace them every two races. However, depending on which tracks you have, you may want to save engines for the higher speed tracks where they are more important.
Once you get into Elite, it is definitely recommended to try to replace your engines after every race.
Do note that saving engines will not help in the long run. Once season ends you are topped back up to 10 even if you had 0 or 9 engines left after the last race.
Also, in my experience, I seem to get a free engine on the day 7 of logging bonus fairly often (50%?) on top of the day 5 guaranteed engine so do take that into account.
Personally since I'm much lower level than my opponents in Elite and have no hope of scoring points. I tend to change them every 2-3 races earlier in the season when they all use their 15-20 design point and pull away from my car. Then, when my car gets closer to maxed thanks to research, I spend the stockpiled engine every race. An exception to this rule is that I always change my engine when it's a rainy race since DRS is irrelevant and I scored my top 2 finish on rainy races one of which was earlier in the season.
