Driver not doing well in races

So I have a problem, my driver just isn't performing. Despite having better stats than most drivers in my league. My research is good, having one of the more competitive cars or not being far of from the best one.

Can someone please give me some insight on why this is happening?

My driver Lewis Thompson is statistically better than Jamie Wright (not by much though) but he underperforms against Jamie. I believe this is due to hidden attributes.
