So, one liter makes the car slower by about a tenth per lap (about). And fuel economy gives more distance able to travel for less fuel consumed
Thanks for that. I understand that fuel economy improves... well... fuel economy, but I was curious if anyone knows the exact numbers behind that. So for example 10 more points in fuel economy is 0.1 litre less fuel per lap or something like that.
I did some testing awhile ago. Every track possibly has its own spots. I think they use rounding up/down to make it more difficult to figure out exact formula. To explain the issue:
Bahrain
79 points of fuel eco = 2.47 L
84 points of fuel eco = 2.43 L
94 points of fuel eco = 2.42 L
As you can see, points do not have equal value here. I figured that this is due to rounding issue and I tried to adjust to that, but could not make numbers to work exactly. I had few theories to test out but did not go that far. All my testing has shown that even if you figure out, iGP is random enough to not make it work.
I have experienced setting up heavy braking through suppliers for a certain track that favored braking in testing, only to have issues during race because car's acceleration was not strong enough. In other words, I could qualify well but would lose out on on-track competition. BUT where the randomness comes about, I have had experience where one time same track favored braking and next time acceleration.
Coming back to fuel eco part. If you really want to focus on it, you should figure out your sweet spots. See, what would be your best fuel consumption per lap to fit your strategy for race. Then experiment with fuel eco to fit your needs. In general it makes a little difference.
If race is going to be 30 laps and you will make 10 lap stints, then you could try to have fuel consumption at 2.60, for example. Something ending with a 0, or something bit different. Track temperature, tyre compound, fush limits - these all come into play in fuel consumption during race. There are way too many factors to actually have an advantage. It is easier and more sensible to focus on your race strategy and having fun. Trying to play by numbers will not work out in iGP.
