Hi Kristof.
It looks like you'll be in Elite next season so...
A CD the same level as the team (or for L20 teams a 5 star L19 CD) after every race will generate 3dp in strength, 1dp in weakness and 2dp in the remaining 6 attributes. These design points are banked and each race another 16 points are added to the bank.
So if you have one CD all season with (for example) Handling strength and Braking weakness, and you compete in a 20 race season, your cars will begin the following season with 60dp in Handling, 20dp in Braking and 40dp in the other 6 attributes. This is your "core" design before any of the supplier modifiers are applied.
If you have a second CD with (again for example) Acceleration strength and Handling weakness and have each of these CDs active for 10 races each in a 20 race season.
For the first ten races you will bank 30dp Handling, 10dp Braking and 20dp in the other 6
For the second ten races you will bank 30dp Acceleration, 10dp Handling and 20 dp in the other 6
So your next season start design would be
Accel - 50
Brake - 30
Cool - 40
Downforce - 40
Fuel - 40
Handling - 40
Reliability - 40
Tyres -40
Exactly the same total design points (320) just distributed differently.
To make things a little more complicated, during the current season if you research your CD strength you will receive about 10% extra research points, whereas if you research CD weakness you only receive about 50% of the points you would normally get.
So it's up to you to manage your team and decide what you think gives you the best development path.
- Do you want a single strong design attribute next season? If so only use one CD.
- Do you want to maximise research? If so you may need to use multiple CDs and potentially risk a compromised start of season design the following season (or leave / re-join).
- Do you want a balanced design? If so use multiple CDs but don't let research drive which of your CDs is active at any one time.
Some people think this game is very simple but as you can see there are a complex set of variables to manage both in preparing the cars for the race and managing them during the race.
I hope this goes some way to answering your question.
