The logic of this game raises more and more questions in me (even if it is in it at all ...) ... I bring free practice, so I rightly think I have one of the best cars (if not, please this game corrects this meaningless classification). Despite this, I start from 12th place (8th if I don't count those on ss tires) ... And as usual I slip back to 18th place ... Free practice, qualifying results are not realistic ...

some managers sandbag, i.e. they do free practice before putting their upgrade points onto their car and then they add them on just before the race, sneaky xD

In addition to the above, some managers also make their cars even less competitive by running practice laps before replacing engines and immediately after training drivers so they are on minimum health.
All of these tactics combined will result in a very slow car.
Then just to throw a little more confusion into the mix, driver errors are switched off for qualifying but are still enabled for practice.
In a nutshell, practice is only any good for confirming setup plus approximating fuel consumption and tyre wear.
But I do sympathise with the OP. With this team I also seem to do OK in practice but suffer in qualifying.
