In full length races there are certain tracks where you can deploy a 6 or 7 stop strategy to win. This is ridiculous and we need to do something to prevent this and add some skill to the game.
My suggestion is
Restrict teams to a certain number of each set maybe 2 or 3 of each and include qualifying into this
Make teams use 2 different compounds per race
Restrict the number of pit stops a team can make unless it rains.
Thoughts?
Hi Adam,
I would argue that forcing people to only be make a max number of stops / sets of tyres removes skill from the game. Everyone will default to the same 3 stop hard or 4 stop soft strat all of the time.
Where as now there can be a number of different options to choose from. Do you risk the 5/6/7 stop SS strat and risk burning up your tires, do you try the softs and hope you can keep catch up when the SS goes off, do you try hard tyre and hope you can keep them hot enough and not fall too far behind. And this is not even taking all the permutations that this creates with fuel loads too.
I think there is more skill in exploiting these options as compared to be forced to do 3 stops etc. We are playing a game as compared to a simulator. At least thats just my feelings on it.
I think that's why it's good to discuss. Place like Europe are silly where you can do a 6 stop strategy.
We have discussed in our league and it seems most want free reign on pit stops but that you should have to use 2 compounds.
It is hard to nail down unless there were more set up features to tweak cars.
Certainly, everything is worth discussing, but most things have been discussed much more than once. So apologies if my replies seem a bit blunt.
I suppose the first thing to remember is that this is a game, not a simulator. So what if 6 stops is faster? The game would be much more boring if everyone was restricted on tyres and engines life real F1. Everyone would run the same 2/3 stop strat etc
As for the 2 tyre rule, many leagues have this within their own "league rules", or at least they did. The team owner would have to just quick check every result after the race to make sure everyone complies. But as someone pointed out in a different thread, managing 2 different tyres is very problematic unless you are sure you are going to be available to live manage a complete race due to different push levels etc.
