we have a small competitive league and i tried this experiment where i focus research on tyres

now it was midseason 9/15 races

i have the most developed car
but i don't qualify well ( even with tokened and perfect setup )
it's annoying but it doesn't bother me much

but while racing with my friend on the same push level ( not burning tyres or anything ) he does more laps than me while i have the highest tyre research

i am on 95 tyres research while he is on 14 ( yes just FOURTEEN ) , and he out laps me on the same tyres with longer stints

please explain

You need to put more fuel in your car, tyre degradation does make you pit fuel does. Your friend is obviously letting his tyres wear down more than you before pitting

Let's say, you and your friend do 10 laps. His tyres are down to 50%. Yours are at 60%. If you both pit in lap 10, your advantage doesn't show. The next few laps, you would have been quicker.

How much is left on your tyres when you pit?

The tyre economy just works back to front plain and simple.

It extends SS by 2-3 laps, S by 4-5 Laps, M 5-6 Laps & H 7-8 laps. It really should be extending SS more than H, since H already has very long life.

Looking at the lap times he has the better car.

Here my useless car in Brazil:

That's the worse of them Murks, their weakness is fuel and it's not really important. The drop off in the tyres doesn't have as much effect as a car like mine that has acceleration as it weakness.

As said, you just pitted sooner. As your screenshot shows those Super Softs had plenty of life left at your pit stop. He pushed them much further to the limit and if you went for the same your car could've done 18 or 19 laps. As James pointed out, the difference is there, at least in low range of development as it does indeed starts to fade a bit into meaninglessness in the upper half of the development range, but it's not worlds of difference like expecting doing twice the distance.
