I have a theory on this, but I'm not sure without seeing the code:
- new users cannot join old leagues
- old users can leave / join old leagues
- when an 'old' usesrs joins a new league, they somehow gain additional meta and get updated to a 'new' user
- old leagues do not inherit new league meta when their season ends
Now this could be related to the league tier, Rookie vs Pro vs Elite. It seems to be that new leagues are all essentially 'Rookie' tier ... any league that's had its season end is now flagged as a standalone league without any tier, but since the old users are all still in their 'Pro' or 'Elite' tier they are not able to join.
Just my best guess based on the evidence.
I just read your theory, and it connects a lot with my theory, although mine is a bit more of suspecting that Jack and his group did some change or Shadowban kind to the classic leagues and/or users coming out and going in from the leagues, there are good reasons to think so.
It's not entirely true that new users can't join the old leagues, as I am an older user who is returning to the game after the upgrade, and before entering the iGP league that I am in, I tried to enter an old league with friends, and I couldn't get in.
Your theory that the old leagues do not inherit the new goal seems to be true, since the iGP leagues appear all without problems, and in my case, I mostly get the boosted leagues, but not that league with my friends, which does not have a boost.
My theory is that they are making a Shadowban to the old leagues so you are eliminated and move to the new updated league system, which makes you not appear available for everyone, when before the update, if they came out for everyone. Another theory I have is that they now give Shadowban to some users, in order for them not to be able to enter some leagues where they think they've caused problems or left the league and want to come back, as I've seen cases of users who just leave their league, want to re-enter, and the problem happens. They are theories, but I feel that it is valid to believe this, since they have not given an answer in this forum post either, which is very rare, as the leagues are the heart of iGP Manager, and that there is a failure so important as not being able to enter the leagues, and that they do not give an answer, is very suspicious.
