Yesterday’s German GP in my league World Racing League, most of the day pre race the weather was raining with 3.3mm of water on track so most active managers were setting up for full wet tyres however at the 10 minute cut of just before race the weather had changed to no rain and only 0.3mm of water on track which meant qualifying was a mess, which I can accept, however as the track was clearly drying fast so both wet tyre was not going to be an option for any sensible manager, but those teams that had chosen either inters or full wets did not have the availability to chose a dry track tyre only wets. Teams that hadn’t chosen a wet tyre or teams that were not active on dry tyre set ups had the option of choosing either wet or dry tyres. This situation meant that the wet tyre teams were forced to make an extremely early pit stop giving even the inactive teams around an 18second advantage. Surely under these circumstances all teams should have all tyres available to make a decision on prior to the start. I accept that weather conditions change and I’m happy for this to happen but when an inactive team can gain an advantage over teams that are active that doesn’t make sense. What are other people’s views on this ?
