If I cancel the subscription does it do it straight away or from the renewal date?

You've already paid for one year's worth of subscription, so when you cancel, it will stop renewing itself. The subscription itself will expire one year after the date it was purchased.

If you cancel a subscription it will run until it expires (what was formerly the renewal date), but it won't renew automatically.
