[Java Issues] - Help the Developers with your feedback.

Many people are having connecting or loading issues with the 2D and Live Timing applications on the website, this is due to an incompatability on some java versions. Help the devs with messaging Andrew Wiseman or simply contacting here, details from the Java Console which can contain error information which can help fix the issue. I've been talking to Andrew and he has asked me for some feedback on the Java issues and I feel everyone could assist in this problem.

To know how to enable to view the Java Console, follow these steps.

Method 1:

1. Click Start.
   
2. Select Settings.
   
3. Select Control Panel.
   
4. Double click the Java Icon.
   
5. Click the Advanced tab.
   
6. Click the [+] sign.
   
7. Select Show Console and click Apply.
   
   

Method 2:

1. Locate the Java icon from the System tray on the lower right hand side of your screen. (The location can be different for those who move their task bars.)
   
2. Right click on the Java icon.
   
3. Select Open Console.

Known Issues

• In 2D and Live timing, some unit frames such as Driver Push Control maybe blank, simply refresh until this clears.
  
  Non-Java Related Issues
  
• Connection issues may arise during peak times while connecting to either 2D or '1D'
  
• Stability issues with x64 Browsers, please use x86 Browsers
  

Connection Issue Fix

Please allow Java to work through your Windows Firewall or disable the Firewall entirely. This will improve stability for connection and playing, also disabling Search Engine Toolbars and Other addons that may interfere with Java Applications, also update all runtime Java Application version for 6 and 7 to their latest updates available for 32 bit browsers.

That first listed issue is definitely not universal. I run Java 7 (Update 5 I think) on my system at home and 2D still works fine, though I did have pit stop issues with my last race on it (it didn't follow my unschedule stop instructions even though I did everything correctly for it). Been running Java 7 for a few weeks though.

At least for me, something that helps get the 2D up and running is if you load the page, and then don't switch to another window or tab while it's loading. It'll often throw an exception error for me if I change tabs before it's done loading.

Well I never had any problems with the 2D viewer.
But James is right. I have Java 7 Update 5 too.
It works for me here without any problems.

Where do you even get update 6? When I go to their website it tells me I have the latest version (5) ?

David - can you pin this thread - or whatever you do to make it stand alone.

I've been having serious connection issues. Always being shown "Connecting..."

I had to disable AVG antivirus to get it working.

Sticking a thread is a Developer or Moderator only privilidge, they have done so after talking with Andrew.

Could you be more specific and include the log from your Java Console? To open the java console, look to the original post for launching the Java Console.

Updated primary post from new issues that have been posted in the forum, if you have any new fixes to the issues you have had, please mail me those fixes so I can test and make sure they help. Do not link me to 3rd party applications.

hi, im having problems too.
I use the basic live timing, not the 2D version.(I made a mistake and said i was using the 2D version, sorry about that)
Timing always appears without any problem, chat window sometimes, and since yesterday the strategy window does not appear at all.
The following text is from a time when i got timing and chat window, but no strategy.
Hope you can find the problem, today i couldn do anything to improve the pace of my driver.

I had that issue aswell and it seemed to fix itself when I refreshed the page.

Hey umm.. I am not a subscriber so I use the Live Timing Control Live Control. But when I click the Live Timing button, a window suddenly pops up saying "You need the Latest Java Runtime Environment. Would you like to update it now?" Well, I clicked cancel, the Chat and control (pit,push and fuel) panels dont appear, only the timing page. I am currently running Java 6 on Safari, Mac OS X 10.6. My java is already updated to the latest. Can somebody help me? :(

the only issue i have is the drivers orders not showing up, everything else works on live timing.

it's going to screw up my entire race no thanks to this screw up.
Edit: luckily, my driver dug himself out of that hole. nothing lost.. this time.
